Sunday School Resumes September 10, Teacher Meeting at 9AM same day

Our new Sunday School year will be starting up soon. Our teachers work hard and it is so good to be able to come together to support each other. Beginning Sunday,  September 10 all teachers are invited monthly to gather before church for breakfast, prayer, and open discussion. This will be a place to ask questions about scheduling, curriculum, the classes, or just be blessed in community. This will take place at 9:00 every 2nd Sunday of the month.

Congregational Meeting regarding Ark Rental possibilities on August 27 after Worship

This Sunday after worship we will hold a special congregational meeting to consider taking the next steps of looking into the possibility of renting out space in the Ark building to raise additional funds for our church and its ministries.

We will be asking for permission from the congregation to actively pursue a rental arrangement and come back with a contract for congregational approval in the near future.  We will also detail the up-front costs we may incur before any actual rent is realized.  We also need to discuss how to maintain our staffing levels with Victoria as our Pastor for Children and Youth.  Currently our budget line and special appeal giving from last year will pay her salary through November 2.

I hope you can make time to come to this important meeting!  We sense the Spirit’s movement as we take practical steps to live into our action plan as well as provide the needed funds to maintain our beautiful campus.

Family Fun Day is August 19

Let’s enjoy summer while we can! It’s time for Fun and Sun! Join us on Saturday, August 19 from 1:00-3:00 for family fun, water balloons and messy summer games! Bring your friends and neighbors (young and old)-all are invited! Some games will be messy, if you want to participate in all of them you may want to dress accordingly.

Tentative Special Workshops on Aging in January

Pastors Steve and Hans-Erik are working on hosting a two-Sunday series on An Inside Look at Aging, tentatively scheduled during the worship hour on January 14 and 21, 2018.  This will be a valuable workshop for all, including those who are feeling the effects of aging for themselves, for adult children contemplating care decisions for their parents, and for churches to create and sustain effective ministry to Seniors. This is also a series that may attract our neighbors with helpful and insightful information.  Mark your calendars!

Pastor Hans-Erik to take Sabbatical Leave in October and November

As part of Hans-Erik’s call the church has graciously offered a two-month sabbatical leave after six years of service.  Hans-Erik will use the time to rest, restore, read, work with his hands, and spend time with family.  The goal is to come back renewed, revitalized, and full of energy, life and vision for ministry.  Thank you Foothill!  Pastor Victoria will preach seven of the nine Sundays Hans-Erik is away, with one other Sunday filled by a to-be-determined supply preacher on October 8 and by Steve Wong as we worship jointly at Grace on November 12.

Prayer Team Open to All, Meets on 3rd Tuesday each Month

Our Action Plan called for the creation of the Prayer Team, which meets monthly to pray for our church and ministries, our members, and for the progress of the Action Plan.  It is always an excellent time of community sharing and supplication.  We meet at 7PM and always end promptly at 8PM.  Contact Hans-Erik at hans-erik.nelson@foothillcov.org if you would like to be on the Prayer Team email list.  Also, anyone can come to the meetings any time.

June 3 Maker Club features catapults

Maker Club meets next on Saturday, June 3, 4:30-6pm

This month each participant will make their own small-scale trebuchet-style catapult from materials we supply. We will then take them out to the proving grounds (aka the parking lot) and try them out with various smaller projectiles like marbles, marshmallows, etc.

Parents and older (9+) students can come three nights early at 7PM on Wednesday, May 31 if they want to help Pastor Hans-Erik build a much larger trebuchet which we will use that Saturday to hurl larger objects like water balloons.

Kids should come on Saturday in clothes that can get a little wet as they will have the option of fielding water balloons catapulted by our large trebuchet. It will be a nice way to cool down on a summer afternoon!

We will have childcare for kids 4 and under, so parents can go out or stay and make with their older ones.

We meet at Foothill Covenant Church, 1555 Oak Ave.
