3 Things from the September Executive Committee Meeting

ONE: Discussed the many preparations needed to make Victoria’s transition to Silicon Valley successful, including appropriating funds for her relocation, asking the congregation for short-term help with a car, as well as help with a few nights housing while she apartment-hunts.

TWO: Set aside $500 from the Action Plan budget line for improving the welcoming factor of our playground.  The Christian Education board will go through our playground toys and vehicles, discarding or selling old or broken items, and looking for high-quality, lightly used and fun replacements.  They also would like to create a parking area for the toys/trikes, so if you have skill in carpentry and want to help, let the Board know!

THREE: Explored some core values and principles to guide us as we continue to work towards a redesign of our landscape plan and the Landscape Team’s eventual presentation of it to the congregation.  In short, we hold out the imperative that people and relationships are more important than plants, landscapes, designs, and fixtures on the property, and that our work together needs to operate out of those core values.

Welcome Recreate Church Worship Band to Lead on October 16

On Sunday, October 16 we welcome Fred Torres and the worship band from Recreate Covenant Church of San Jose, which closed its doors in July.  Their worship band is staying together and has as their goal to bless other churches with their worship leading.

They will lead our worship time on October 16, introducing sounds both old and new to us, and helping us to explore a different style of worship that we may find reverent, joyful, and excellent!

Welcome Fred and Co.!

Help Needed — Loan a Car to Victoria

Foothill Family,

Do you have an extra automobile you are able to loan Victoria a month or possibly more?  She would insure the car against theft, collision, and other damage.  This would help her as she transitions to life here in Silicon Valley, a major change from her current home in Minnesota.

Thanks to the Smiths who are picking Victoria up from the airport and giving her a place to stay until she finds an apartment.

3 Things from the Landscape Team

ONE: The team has been collating and cataloging concerns and inputs about the design we received from McKenna Landscape. The Team hopes to meet with McKenna Design soon to share their work, giving high-level design goals, and asking for a re-design.

TWO: Wherever the river flows, life will flourish. One particular aspect of the re-design is the creation of a rock river that will flow out from the south face of the church on Oak Avenue and be reminiscent of the stream of life described in a vision in Ezekiel 47:

Now he brought me back to the entrance to the Temple. I saw water pouring out from under the Temple porch to the east (the Temple faced east). The water poured from the south side of the Temple, south of the altar. He then took me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the gate complex on the east. The water was gushing from under the south front of the Temple.

He told me, This water flows east, descends to the Arabah and then into the sea, the sea of stagnant waters. When it empties into those waters, the sea will become fresh. Wherever the river flows, life will flourish-great schools of fish-because the river is turning the salt sea into fresh water. Where the river flows, life abounds. Fishermen will stand shoulder to shoulder along the shore from En-gedi all the way north to En-eglaim, casting their nets. The sea will teem with fish of all kinds, like the fish of the Great Mediterranean.

THREE: The Team is working to keep relationships a top priority in their work, mindful that design work and conversations around the aesthetics of landscaping can become emotionally charged.  We hold up the scriptural value that people and the relationships between them are more important than plants, trees, fences, rock rivers, landscapes, or buildings.  Praise God!

Foothill Calls Victoria Gilmore as Associate Pastor

At a recent congregational meeting Foothill took a decisive step forward in our Action Plan to staff for the future.  After several phone interviews and a candidating weekend in late August where the congregation had opportunity to meet with her, Foothill members voted to issue a call to Victoria Gilmore as our Interim Pastor for Children and Youth.  Praise the Lord!  Victoria will begin soon.

3 Things from the August Executive Committee Meeting

ONE: Spent time welcoming new members to the Executive Committee and learning about how it does its work, how it makes decisions, and what areas it makes decisions in.

TWO: Reviewed the Ministry Action Plan and agreed to some new short-term goals to seek to implement, including various future events such as Harvest Festival, Lucia Potluck, and improvements to the welcoming features of our playground.

THREE: Want to explore the idea of having Work and Fun days in the future, where families are invited to adopt a part of the church to keep looking nice, and follow such work days with a BBQ or similar meal at the church.
